Residency
At a typical pace of 6 courses per year, students will be required to complete a residency seminar during each of the first three years of enrollment. Since residency seminars are designed to relate to a particular phase of progress through the program, it is possible that students who are progressing more slowly may have to delay participation in the subsequent seminar. Delays in attending residency seminars will usually result in corresponding delays in degree completion.

Residency
Each student is required to complete a series of annual residencies at one of the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University campuses. The residencies will normally be scheduled during August and will continue for six days – Monday through Saturday.
Residencies will be conducted in an executive seminar format, and will include topics such as transformation to a Ph.D., critical thinking skills, scholarship, statistics review, Blackboard orientation, writing skills, current research trends in aviation, writing the dissertation, and others. Residencies will also provide students and program faculty an opportunity for networking and determining common research interests.
DAV 701 Residency Seminar I is considered a prerequisite for all courses in the program.
Residency Pre-Work
In order to optimize the time spent during the residency, students will be engaged in preparatory activities during the period three weeks prior to each on-campus residency program. Students will be assigned selected readings, virtual group projects, and writing assignments during this period.
