Alan Stolzer, Ph.D.

Dr. Stolzer is the Residency Director for the Ph.D. in Aviation program and Professor of Applied Aviation Studies. Stolzer has been in academia for 24 years, the majority in administrative positions including department chair and associate dean. Stolzer holds a Ph.D. in Quality Systems, an M.S. from Embry-Riddle, and a B.S. from the College of the Ozarks. He has over 8,000 of flight time, an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, a Certified Flight Instructor Certificate, and an A&P mechanic's certificate. He also holds professional certifications from the American Society for Quality - Quality Engineer, Quality Manager, and Quality Auditor, as well as a Project Manager Certificate from the Project Management Institute. Dr. Stolzer's teaching and research interests include Safety Management Systems, and aviation safety programs, such as Flight Operations Quality Assurance. His textbook, Safety Management Systems in Aviation, was published by Ashgate Publications in 2008. He is widely published in aviation safety and quality areas, and has won and managed several grants. Stolzer has served on the Board of Trustees of the Aviation Accreditation Board International for 11 years, and has chaired its Accreditation Committee for the past 7 years.
